SharePoint Online is a cloud-based collaborative platform hosted by Microsoft for businesses of any size. It comprises a series of cloud- and web-based technologies that make it easy to share, store and manage digital information within an organization.

 

Any company can subscribe to an Office 365 plan or the standalone SharePoint Online service instead of having to install and deploy SharePoint Server on-premises. Users can create sites in order to share information and documents with colleagues, partners, and customers.
